Ocean Media

An online publishing company that creates original, branded, quality content.

LITRO

is a free fiction magazine that is distributed near to London Underground stations, in bookshops, galleries,
media
bars and many other venues across the capital. Published by Ocean Media, 50,000 copies are now distributed every month.

OUR ETHOS

When the first issue of LITRO was published in April 2006, the main free paper for commuters was the morning Metro. Since then the field has been joined by The London Paper, London Lite and other tabloid style publications which, like the Metro, can be skim-read and quickly discarded. LITRO is different –our central aim has always been to provide commuters with an inspiring, though-provoking alternative that takes you places you don’t normally think about when travelling on the Underground. We believe fiction should be enduring, not disposable, and as such LITRO magazine is specially designed to fit in your pocket or bag – we think of it as a small free book. It is purposefully compact in terms of quantity of content, too. Literature isn’t something that can be read by skipping from the first paragraph of one story to the first paragraph of the next, as you would a newspaper. Instead each piece deserves and demands to be read in full, and later considered. We believe these qualities – inspiration, endurance, focus –benefit our readers and advertisers alike.

THE MAGAZINE

Each monthly issue of LITRO magazine features two or more short stories by new and established writers. The format is a30 page, pocket-sized publication printed in full colour on high quality recycled paper. The design is clean, cool and simple. OUR READERSHIP Our target readership is best characterised as 18-55 year old city dwellers (ABC1). It is self-selecting for people with an interest in culture and innovation, and is perfect reading for those with busy lives. Please see the ‘distribution’ section below for more detail on our distribution outlets.

OUR WEBSITE

Every issue of LITRO is also made available on our website, www.litro.co.uk. The stories are laid out for easy reading on-screen and paper-efficient printing. Our fortnightly mail out,eLITRO, alerts people to each new posting. Banner advertising opportunities are available on each page of the website. SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL

RESPONSIBILITY

Since its conception, we have always striven to run LITRO in a socially and environmentally responsible fashion. We have partnered with many organisations dedicated to encouraging the arts, and particularly writing and reading, in London and beyond (including London Lit Plus, Tales of the Decongested,Lambeth libraries, Small Wonder short story festival, British Council, Book trust’s Get London Reading campaign, and more). In addition to this, a significant proportion of our revenue(after covering print, distribution and promotion costs) is pledged to support causes encouraging literacy, particularly in the London Borough of Lambeth. LITRO is printed on recycled paper, and its compact format means that people are more likely to retain their copy than leave it on trains, as they might other free newspapers.media2
